Corrections, Retractions, and Post-Publication Updates
The Brazilian Journal of Dentistry and Oral Radiology (BJDOR) is committed to maintaining the accuracy of the scholarly record and ensuring transparency in scientific communication. When errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication, the journal follows formal procedures to correct, update, or, when necessary, retract articles, in line with international best practices and guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Corrections (Errata and Corrigenda)
Errors that do not compromise the overall scientific validity of an article — such as typographical mistakes, minor omissions, authorship or affiliation adjustments, figure legends, tables, or references — may be addressed through:
-
Erratum: when the error originates from the journal’s editorial process;
-
Corrigendum: when the error is identified by the authors after publication.
Corrections:
-
receive their own record and are linked to the original article;
-
are published transparently;
-
preserve the original article DOI;
-
clearly describe the nature of the change.
Retractions
An article may be retracted when there is evidence of:
-
substantial plagiarism or redundant publication;
-
data or image fabrication, falsification, or manipulation;
-
serious ethical violations;
-
methodological or analytical errors that invalidate the findings;
-
publication without required consent or ethical approval.
In such cases:
-
a formal retraction notice is issued and linked to the article;
-
the original article remains accessible to preserve the scholarly record but is clearly marked Retracted;
-
decisions follow editorial investigation and, when appropriate, consultation with relevant institutions.
Expressions of Concern
If credible concerns arise while an investigation is ongoing, the journal may issue an Expression of Concern.
This notice:
-
alerts readers to potential issues;
-
remains linked to the article during the investigation;
-
may later lead to correction, retraction, or confirmation of the article’s validity.
Updates and republication
In exceptional circumstances, the journal may:
-
publish updated versions of an article;
-
issue editorial explanatory notes;
-
republish corrected articles when necessary to ensure scientific clarity.
All versions remain traceable to preserve editorial history and transparency.
General principles
BJDOR ensures that:
-
decisions are evidence-based and impartial;
-
authors are given an opportunity to respond during investigations;
-
readers receive clear and permanent notice of any changes;
-
the integrity of the digital scholarly record is preserved.
