DORA Declaration (San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment)
BJDOR and the DORA Declaration

The Brazilian Journal of Dentistry and Oral Radiology (BJDOR) formally endorses the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and reaffirms its commitment to responsible, transparent, and equitable research evaluation practices. DORA promotes improvements in research assessment by encouraging evaluation based on the scientific content and actual contribution of research, rather than relying primarily on journal-based metrics.
Principles adopted by BJDOR
By endorsing DORA, BJDOR commits to:
1. Evaluating scientific merit based on content
Editorial decisions are grounded in methodological rigor, clinical relevance, and scientific contribution, regardless of journal-level metrics.
2. Avoiding inappropriate use of Impact Factor
The journal does not use the Journal Impact Factor as a determinant criterion in the assessment of manuscripts, authors, or reviewers.
3. Recognizing diverse research outputs
We value multiple forms of scholarly contributions, including:
-
original research articles
-
reviews
-
methodological studies
-
research datasets
-
protocols
-
clinical reports
-
interdisciplinary contributions
4. Promoting responsible use of metrics
Quantitative indicators are interpreted cautiously and complemented by qualitative assessment.
5. Supporting equity and inclusivity in research evaluation
BJDOR acknowledges the importance of fair assessment practices that respect institutional, geographic, and disciplinary diversity.
Why DORA matters
Adhering to DORA principles strengthens a research culture grounded in integrity, innovation, and accountability. By prioritizing intrinsic research quality, we contribute to a more balanced and sustainable academic ecosystem. BJDOR encourages authors, reviewers, and institutions to adopt evaluation practices aligned with these principles.
