Peer Review Process
Journal Scope
The Brazilian Journal of Dentistry and Oral Radiology (BJDOR) is an open-access online scientific journal dedicated to publishing original research, clinical reports, reviews, and studies related to dentistry and oral radiology. The journal aims to support the timely and responsible dissemination of scientific advances relevant to clinical practice, education, and research in these fields.
General Policy
Submitted manuscripts must be original and not previously published, except as conference abstracts, academic theses/dissertations, or lecture presentations. Manuscripts must not be under simultaneous consideration by another journal.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors made substantial contributions and approved the final manuscript. Authors are advised to retain a copy of their submission for reference during the review process. Receipt of submission will be acknowledged, and editorial decisions will be communicated as promptly as possible. Accepted manuscripts may undergo editorial adjustments for clarity and formatting.
Peer Review Policy
All submissions to BJDOR undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure academic quality and impartial evaluation.
Authors may suggest qualified reviewers and provide their institutional contact details. Requests to exclude specific reviewers due to conflicts of interest may also be submitted with justification. The final selection of reviewers is made solely by the editors, who may accept or disregard author suggestions.
Review Stages
Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, manuscripts undergo a preliminary editorial assessment to verify:
-
relevance to the journal’s scope
-
compliance with submission guidelines
-
minimum methodological quality
-
ethical and documentation requirements
Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage without external review.
External Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to two or more independent expert reviewers selected by the editors.
Reviewers are expected to:
-
treat manuscripts and data as confidential
-
avoid sharing materials without editorial permission
-
inform editors if consultation with colleagues is necessary
-
disclose any conflicts of interest
The journal takes reasonable steps to maintain submission confidentiality throughout the process. Reviewer identities are kept confidential whenever possible.
Reviews must be submitted through the journal’s secure online submission system according to the editorial instructions.
Editorial Decision
After receiving the required reviews, the handling editor evaluates:
-
reviewers’ comments
-
scientific quality
-
relevance to dentistry and oral radiology
-
contribution to the literature
The final decision (acceptance, revision, or rejection) is communicated to the corresponding author through the journal system.
Timeliness and Tracking
BJDOR strives to provide timely editorial decisions and publication, recognizing that an efficient editorial workflow benefits both authors and the scientific community.
Reviewers are encouraged to respect agreed deadlines and notify the editorial office of any delays. Authors may check manuscript status at any time through the submission system or by contacting the editorial team.
